Freelancer Tips: Converting a Mere-Client into Fixed-Client (2)

In the first part, I have explained about built a relationship beetwen freelancer and the client. In this second post, you will find some important things you have to do to get fixed-clients.

Instead of working as an outsource, be a consultant.

As a consultant, freelancer will get some benefit, among others, participated determine what projects should be decided by the client to then be done either by freelancers. Another advantage is that freelancers can easily raise prices, more than just doing a job writing, coding, designing, or others.

The difference between regular freelancer with a freelancer who is a consultant is a consultant will offer a solution, while the regular freelancers only execute orders from clients. Some freelancers are fit only to be executor of client orders. However, if allowed to become a consultant, why not? Being a consultant is more fun, both in terms of job challenges, and rewards are obtained.

Converting a Mere-Client into a Fixed-Client

Below are several ways to be a freelance consultant:

Brand Yourself!

A good consultant should perform self-branding, especially for the benefit of imaging skills. A freelance designer, for example, can do branding by building sites to exploit the skills they have.

For example, a coder, write an article on his blog about wordpress, how tweaking wordpress, modify wordpress to powerful sites, and others. Interesting article about the wordpress will give the brand “wordpress ninja” to the freelancers.

Key element in this branding process is: be done continuously. If this process is done once every two months or even six months, then this branding process will be a mere useless :) . Invest 2 hours of time each day outside the work schedule to make the process of branding every day, will bring a freelancer closer to success will be achieved.

Love your work, work your love!

It is important for a freelancer is to love what we do in daily work. If we love a job, then we will feel easy and comfortable to do the job. A quote taken from a blog:

“Ideal business is when the cost of making yourself happy is small compared to the profit your happiness brings you.”

In other words, the ideal job is when the price of happiness is lower than the profits of that happiness. A freelance designer who loves his job, can easily finish a beverage packaging design produced from fresh fruit. The price for the complete design is the work started skecthing, wireframing, and executing for 12 hours, 4 hours in 3 days. The work was fun, because this freelance designer loves what he does.

Then he got $ 2,000 to design the packaging of fresh fruit drinks. Of course, compared with 12 hours, $ 2000 reward is far greater. In these circumstances, reached what is called the ideal job.

In essence, the feeling of happiness because love what we do, it’s very important for a freelancer. When a love of work embedded in the hearts, it will not be the difference between work and play the game. Exciting, is not it?

Give something to your client.

A freelance web designer is working on design of a band group. Once completed, designers are giving a bonus “monthly calendar desktop wallpaper”. Here, clients benefit from the desktop calendar that reinforces company branding. If it gets released, then most likely the client will need a desktop wallpaper design for the next month. Of course, next month will give designers do not design with free. This means that freelance designers are getting fixed monthly project :) .

It’s an easy thing to do, just do it!

Convert regular clients become regular clients, it’s easy, right? Some practical steps above if done continuously, will make a freelancer at a better life. The key is: Do it! The steps above will not provide benefits, if not done.
